American Express is currently offering 30,000 bonus points for new applications of the Starwood Preferred Guest Card. This offer was available last summer and seems to be a annual trend for American Express and the Starwood Preferred Guest Card. This is a great offer since the normal bonus is 25,000 points. Starwood points are highly valuable and difficult points to earn other than staying at properties, buying a timeshare and using the AMEX Starwood credit card.
You could use 30,000 Starwood points for a 7 free nights at The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta or any other Category 2 hotel and 10 free nights at any Category 1. Now that’s a great bonus!
In my opinion this is an extremely valuable rewards card. I carry it in my wallet and use it regularly at Costco. The Starwood points have so much flexibility and the resorts you can stay in worldwide are the cream of the crop. Two of my most recent favorite stays were Hotel Alfonso Seville, Spain (May 2015) and The Turnberry Resort, Southern Coast of Scotland (April 2013); both fabulous properties and incredible stays for our family. Starwood points can’t be compared to Club Carlson, Marriott, IHG, Hyatt or Hilton points in my opinion. They are valued at a higher level because of the Starwood program and how much money they translate too.
I love IHG & Club Carlson points for great family stays but if you want luxury then Starwood delivers just that. I can never have enough Starwood points and I’m extremely selective about when and where I redeem them. The Starwood Preferred Guest Card is absolutely a keeper card for me and not one just for the bonus.
