THE PLATINUM CARD FROM AMEX – INCREASED TO 40,000 BONUS POINTS

Yesterday, American Express launched a new promotion for The Platinum Card® from American Express.  American Express usually offers 25,000 Membership Rewards points for signing up for their  Platinum card, but as of 3/12/14 they’ve increased the public offer to 40,000 bonus points.  $450 annual fee is not waived.  This fee may be too steep for some but if you travel quite often and can maximize the benefits it’s a great card.  The card benefits are some of the best travel rewards card perks.

  • Up to $200 per calendar year in statement credits to offset airline fees.
  • Free Delta SkyClub lounge access and a free Priority Pass Select membership
  • A $100 statement credit to offset the cost of a Global Entry application. Global Entry is a huge benefit that will save you many hours of not waiting in immigration lines when returning back to the US..
  • Free Starwood Preferred Guest Gold Status.

The $200 credit towards airline fees charged to your card really brings the fee for all these benefits down to only $250 which is an incredible deal for what you are getting.  The Platinum Card also carries “no foreign transaction” fees which is a huge benefit for international travelers.  In the past, you haven’t seen this on many AMEX cards but this is where the trend is going.

Bottom line, I think this is a great offer worth considering for some and the highest bonus we’ve seen in awhile for this card.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH MEMBERSHIP REWARDS POINTS?

Membership rewards points are very valuable because they can be used in so many ways.  They can be transferred to several hotel and airline loyalty programs as well as use to book travel and reimburse yourself in a cash statement credit.

Also, Membership Rewards many times offer transfer bonuses where 40,000 points can turn into more miles/points transferred to another program.  These promotions are always happening throughout the year.

There are so many options with Membership Rewards Points. That is why American Express Membership Rewards is one of my top two favorite programs.  My other great love is the Chase Ultimate Rewards program.  The key difference between these two programs and other credit card programs is the number of transfer partners.  You aren’t stuck into a box with limited ways to spend your points.  Learn more about Membership Rewards Program here
