Hey Readers!  Just a quick note to let you know I’ll be traveling for the rest of the week.  I’m heading off to Beverly Hills with the hubby for a much needed getaway!  Dinner is made!  Bags are packed!  Kids schoolwork is done!  Grandma is in route to our home.  Reservations are confirmed & double checked!  So excited!  My husband & I have not been away without our kids since we had kids (8 years!)  It’s time!  I’m nervous about leaving them but I know once I leave I’ll be fine.  I was nervous when I left my husband with my oldest son too when I went to Italy for 2 weeks in 2008.  Same feeling!  I got over it quickly once I got on the plane.  People have always rushed us to get away and leave our kids but the thing is we really love traveling with them.  They make trips so fun!  Just a different kind of fun!
Well, you can expect a full trip report when I return.  I call this our “bachelor” getaway.  It’s my husband’s 40th birthday and I wanted to just spoil him and make it rememberable.  We watch the show Bachelor & Bachelorette on Monday nights and have for years.  I loved it when it started 8 years ago.  I am a sap and die hard romantic.  I love seeing people in love and I love matchmaking people.  So the show is perfect for me.  So much drama.  It’s crazy sometimes!  Anyway, one night I got my hubby to watch with me (he never tells anyone, especially at work) and he got hooked.  So now we called it our Monday night stay-at-home date.  We hurry to get the kids feed and in bed before 8:00p.m.  Get the popcorn popping and cuddle up on the couch for some real drama & sap!  We always love all the romantic “dream” dates they go on.  They make it so easy for these couples to fall in love.  Not like in the real world!  Anyway, it’s always fun to watch.  So I hatched a plan to take my husband on a “dream” date like they do.  Why should the t.v. celebrities have all the fun.  We deserve it!  We’ve been married 12 years.  It’s his 40th birthday.  What better excuse to go all out!  Anyway, I’ll have the full story of our adventure for you when I return!  Think romantic!  Think “dream” date (for a guy)!  Think adventure!
By the way, I’m just so nuts about Starwood as you know but I have to tell you they’ve come through again for me.  I called the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills this morning (as I always do) to confirm our reservation.  I wanted to be sure the cake & wine were in the room upon arrive.  They transferred me to the food service department to make all the arrangements.  Extremely thorough and let me know that it would be comped because it’s his birthday.  Nice!  I also asked for early check in at 10:00 a.m.  The reception told me that they would accomodate my needs and upgrade us into a Suite.  Awesome!  We were already booking an upgrade premier room. Wow!  I love you Starwood.  You really take good care of your members!  Seriously, if you aren’t on board with Starwood.  Jump on the train and get their Starwood Preferred card with a nice 25,000 bonus to jump start you account.  The Points Guy writes a great article this week about all the new elite benefits of the Starwood program starting in March.  Check it out!  Have a good rest of the week!

  1. My love for the Starwood brand runs deep as well. My wife and I are taking a trip to D.C. this month, in which I used my cash and points option to Stay at The westin City Center. I called to let them know that this was a special occasion and they wasted no time in upgrading us all the way to a suite. They also made dinner reservations for us and mentioned something about another surprise that will be waiting for us when we get there. You are are definitely correct when you say that Starwood takes care of their members.

  2. Thanks for sharing that! You'll have to let me know how your trip goes! Ours was incredible. The service & amenities at the SLS Hotel are superb! They gave us a beautiful studio suite with a great view of the city. When we arrived they had a bottle of champange, chocolates, a birthday cake & note waiting. Very nice! These were all "on the house" for my husband's birthday. The suite we had was 500 sq ft. Huge! We were floating around. Can't imagine what you'd do with a 2 room suite unless you have more than 2 people.
