Well, I don’t know about you but I’m getting so excited for Christmas morning.  It’s fun how your kids bring back that excited feeling that you had when you were a kid.  I can’t wait to see the joy on their little faces; the suprise, the amazement, the delight!  It is so much fun to give to them.  Giving to anyone really brings so much joy.  I think I always have more true joy when I’ve given to someone than when I’ve received from someone.  The joy you experience is pure, real and priceless.  As we all enjoy our holidays, I encourage you to think about where in your life you could give.  We all can give in different ways.  We all have something to share; whether it’s money, gifts, encouragement, or love.  When you look around you and get your eyes off yourself, you’ll see how much you have and how truly blessed you are.  I want to encourage you that if you have the financial means and have been blessed this season to share that blessing.  There are so many charities and great organizations to give to this time of year but I just wanted to tell you about my favorite which is St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
Our family has been donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital for years.  Years ago I became aware of this hospital and the hospital’s moto that, “No child will ever be denied”.  There are many children’s hospital but this hospital is for terminally ill children with cancer and rare diseases.  St. Jude families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and no child is ever denied treatment because of the family’s inability to pay the bill.  Your donation pays the bill for a child fighting for his life this holiday season.  As a Mom it breaks my heart to see and hear the stories of these children.  I know these children are no different from my children.  You can only pray that something dreadful like this never happens to your child but you never know.  If I couldn’t afford treatment I would be so grateful for a hospital like this that would save my child’s life.  During the past five years, 81 percent of every dollar donated has supported the research and treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  It cost $1.7 million a day to operate St. Jude, and public donations provide more than 75 percent of the hospital’s funding.  Amazing huh!  So I encourage you, if you haven’t found a great place to donate this year, St. Jude is a great place.  You don’t have to give a large amount to make a difference.  Our family doesn’t have a large amount to give because we are a single income family with young children and living in a very expensive part of California.  We send St. Jude’s $10 a month which it’s a lot but think of all the other families like ours just able to give a little something.  No amount is too small.  Everyone’s financial means are different.  So I encourage you to check out St. Jude, and consider donating, even just a $10 one time gift.
Well, in the spirit of giving, I’d also like to give something to one of you my readers this holiday season.  I know you all love miles and points or you wouldn’t be reading this. So what you do think I’ll be giving you, but of course some miles/points.  The winner can choose two (2) of the following gifts:

  1. 1,000 Continental miles
  2. 1,000 United miles
  3. 1,000 British Airways miles
  4. 1,000 Korean Air miles
  5. 1,000 Marriott points
  6. 1,000 Hyatt points
  7. 1,000 Priority Club points
  8. 1,000 Amtrak points

Like my first Miles Momma promo, I will have my children draw the winner from all the entries.  They had so much fun helping last month, so I thought I’d let them help again.  I really think old school is much more fun than a random computer drawing.  A bit more work but it’s a fun project for me & my kiddos.
Enjoy your holiday time with your family and don’t forget to GIVE!
Remember we all have something to give!

Special thanks to for hosting my giveaway.

  1. Love your blog! Thanks for all your efforts – it's a great resource. I am particularly interested in learning more about the acquisition and use of hotel points.Joe M.slomo63(at)gmail(dot)com

  2. Merry Christmas, Miles Momma! In the coming year I'd be interested in reading more about maximizing miles earning and details about how you book your trips (especially international) to get the most bang for your buck…er…miles. :)(I don't know how to put my e-mail without it being published publicly.)

  3. I'm new to the miles/points game and always travel with wife and 2 kids so it's tough trying to use miles that we don't have enough of. More pointers on utilizing miles/points for the whole family would be helpful. Thanks. (Mas H.)

  4. @Joe M. – I will try to write some post soon regarding acquiring hotel points. I've been heavily at work doing this myself, saving up for a big 4 week European trip in 2013. Need lots of points.@Robyn D. – I will write some on booking award seats, the when, how and best resources to use.@Anonymous – Don't really get your comment. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Guess you shouldn't be reading my blog if you truly feel that way. Maybe you'll find a home somewhere else. Good luck to you!

  5. I always have a hard time balancing my focus on airline miles and hotel points. Seems like I can only effectively one at a time bc I don't have a good understanding of which promotions I should be focusing on.Zach Hzach.hanlon AT gmail

  6. Thanks everyone for your posts. This is going to be a great to-do list so to speak for me. Your comments are perfect and what I was hoping for. 7. Hi Faith, thank you for your great site and for offering this generous giveaway. I am starting to learn ways to accumulate miles for my husband and I to visit our family and friends all over the world. I am interested in learning how find and use mile bonuses properly, and to manage and use my miles accounts effectively (since I seem to have miles spread over several different airlines/aliances/hotels randomly over the years). I look forward to reading more of your posts! Happy holidays and happy new year!- Michelle M., tishy0003(at)gmail . com.

  8. Merry Christmas and thanks for your great blog. I love how you find a way to do most of this on a shoestring which provides things most of us can use. Regarding airline seats, I've been reading Nicholas Kralev's book, "Decoding Air Travel" which so far seem to provide very good and detailed insight into airline seats and inventory. I managed to find it at my local library to check out for free. Also, I would love more info on how to get free hotel rooms as well.Ed. Sed(dot)stubbins(at)gmail*com

  9. Tell me what you would like to learn more about in the coming year or what you need help with most in the miles & points world. I would love to learn a better way to keep track of all my points from different companies.

  10. This is such a great blog, you do such a nice job of laying out so many of the offers out there to rack up more miles! I'd like to know more about resources that allow you to obtain miles without spending money or using credit. Unfortunately, we don't all have good credit. :/ Thanks for all of your great info. Miles Momma!

  11. I would like to learn more about blog contests as I really don't know much about them but they seem like fun! Thanks for such a great offer as without points right now we can't afford to go away for a weekend so this sure helps. Mary L
