Today American Express has launched a limited-time bonus for their Starwood Preferred Guest Card. The bonus has been increased from 25,000 points to 30,000 points. You could use 30,000 Starwood points for a 7 free nights at The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta or any other Category 2 hotel and 10 free nights at any Category 1. Now that’s a great bonus!

American Express launched this same limited-time bonus last summer with almost identical promotional dates. Guess they know how popular this offer is and how many people wait for it to come. They also offered this increased bonus in December of 2011. This is the highest bonus I am aware that has ever been offered for this card.

In my opinion this a very valuable rewards card. I carry it in my wallet and use it regularly. The Starwood points have so much flexibility and the resorts you can stay in worldwide are the cream of the crop. Take a look at some of the Starwood properties for yourself here.

Starwood points can’t be compared to Club Carlson points or even Marriott or Hilton points in my opinion. They are valued at a much higher level because of the Starwood program and how much money they translate too. My top three reasons for saying this are:

You can transfer these points to your favorite airline. Whenever you transfer 20,000 points you receive a 5,000 mile bonus. So 20,000 points equals 25,000 to most all airlines.
The program has a Cash & Points option which gives you huge savings at high end hotels.
For example, when making a booking you can use only 4,000 points and $60 for one (1) night in a $300/$400+ room. It’s a great way to stretch your points and stay in some really nice accommodations.
5th night free option – I love this option.
Personal example: I just used a bunch of Starwood points myself this past April. Our family stayed for five (5) nights in the Turnberry Resort, Scotland for only 54,000 Starwood points. This is a high end exclusive property on the coast of Scotland that is known worldwide as one of the most premier golf courses and resorts in the world. I love Priority Club & Club Carlson but if you want luxury then Starwood is where it is. I am always looking to earn Starwood points and I’m very selective about when and where I redeem them. It is very difficult to earn Starwood points without having the Starwood Preferred Guest card. The only other way is really by paying for stays at Starwood properties which is something I never do.
