AA FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY – DON’T BE ALARMED
Hello Readers. I’ve just been reading about American Airlines filing for bankruptcy and I’ve also receive an email from them like many of you probably have. I am not too concerned and I don’t think you should be either. Many respected knowledge experts in the airline industry are not worried either. Gary Leff, Co-Founder of Milepoint tells the Associate Press:
“Miles are safe,” said Gary Leff, co-founder of frequent flier site MilePoint. He said the bankruptcies of past airlines “are instructive.” He even suggested there might be some promotions to keep loyal travelers. Read this very informative article in full here
My educated guess is that we as mile collectors will start seeing some great miles deals coming out from American Airlines to encourage frequent flyers and dispel any fears travels might have. I expect Citibank or another lender will start promoting AA more with new offers. I wouldn’t be surprise if we see the Citibank AA card go from a 50,000 bonus offer to a 100,000 bonus offer. I’m ready & waiting! It will be interesting to see what happens in 2012. With almost 300,000 miles with AA right now, I’m not worried. I don’t think they are going anywhere, just re-organizing like many airlines have done in the past.
